Attachment Loss and Grief

< Back to Videos

During their session, Dr. Ken and Dr. Julie delved into the topic of attachment loss and grief, specifically related to Julie’s childhood experiences. Dr. Ken helped Julie to reflect on her past and identify the various losses and grief associated with the incident that occurred when she was eight years old.

Julie shared her realization of the profound impact the incident had on her life, leading to a loss of safety, trust, and a sense of goodness. She highlighted the various losses, including the loss of her mother’s nurturing, a sense of playfulness, trust in herself and others, and the ability to connect authentically with people. The session delved into the deep-rooted shame, self-judgment, and the constant need to prove her worth.

Dr. Ken encouraged Julie to acknowledge and grieve these losses, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with her inner child who experienced these traumas. They explored how the incident shaped Julie’s beliefs about herself, others, and the world. The conversation touched on the loss of identity, the hardening of her personality to survive, and the impact on her ability to form genuine connections.

As Julie unveiled these layers of grief and loss, Dr. Ken provided a compassionate space for her to express her feelings and self-reflect. The session concluded with Julie expressing a newfound understanding and compassion for herself, recognizing the need to embrace playfulness, kindness, and self-acceptance as part of her healing journey.
