Certification
Uncategorized
The ARPT™ Certification model is patterned after the certification models of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAFMT) Approved Supervisor training and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAFMT) Approved Supervisor training.
Mental health clinicians who are fully licensed/registered to engage in private, independent practice and have completed an ARPT™International Association (ARPTIA) Approved ARPT™ Basic Training in its entirety are eligible to become an ARPT Certified Clinician through ARPT Canada or ARPTIA. The ARPT Certified Clinician in Canada can seek an additional designation as an ARPT™ Consultant and teach ARPT Basic and ARPT Advanced Training.
Certification in ARPT™ is a voluntary process. It is a pathway through which individual clinicians may wish to pursue further training. Certification is not required in order for a clinician to practice ARPT™. If you are trained in ARPT™ Basic Training, you can use ARPT under your registration or license. ARPT Certification is an option that many therapists have wanted because of the increasing demand for providing culturally affirmative relational and systemic trauma and PTSD services. Here are the ARPT designations:
- ARPT™ Clinician refers to clinicians who have completed an ARPT Canada or ARPTIA Approved ARPT™Basic Training.
- ARPT™ Certified Clinician refers to clinicians who have completed ARPT™ Certification Criteria.

Both statements may be included in one single notarized document. Applicants can simply state, “I have at least 2-year experience in my field of license and I have conducted at least 50 ARPT™ sessions with at least 20 clients” or similar wording and then have it notarized.
4. (Fifteen)15 Hours of Consultation by an ARPT™ Consultant

- The 15 hours of consultation must have been completed within the last five years. If you continue to receive consultation hours for over five years, then as long as the ARPT™ Consultant can explain in the letter of documentation when the consultation started and ended (e.g. 2015-2023) and if/when long breaks in consultation occurred, that will be acceptable. We understand that clinicians may stop consultation and then restart again, but we cannot accept consultation hours that concluded 5 or more years ago.
- If you have received consultation from more than one ARPT™ Consultant, you will need documentation from each one.
- At least 7 of the hours must be obtained through individual ARPT™-focused consultation. The remaining 8 hours may be obtained through small group consultation. Consultation groups cannot exceed more than six participants at a time.
